What’s included

What a deck project
includes.

Our deck builds in East Gwillimbury run from single and multi-level decks, stairs and landings to cedar, aluminium or glass railings and decks around above-ground pools. We also repair frames, re-board sound ones and replace railings.

  1. Wood decks

Cedar or pressure-treated lumber, stained in the tone you choose or left to weather.

    • Cedar or pressure-treated boards
    • Single and multi-level layouts
    • Stain and sealer
    • Wide steps down to grade
  2. Composite decks

Composite boards on a wood frame, for a surface that asks for washing and little else.

    • Composite decking
    • Cedar posts and rail caps
    • Aluminium balusters
    • Raised decks with stairs
  3. Stairs, railings and lighting

What gets touched every day is chosen alongside the deck and goes in with it.

    • Cedar, aluminium or glass railings
    • Stairs and landings
    • Lights set into the risers
    • Decks around an above-ground pool
  4. Design and rendering

The deck is measured, laid out and shown in a rendering before lumber is ordered.

    • Site measure and levels
    • Layout and material choices
    • A rendering to review
  5. Repair and renovation

If the deck’s bones are still good, it gets new life. If not, you get honest advice.

    • Frame and joist repairs
    • New boards on an existing frame
    • Railing replacement
    • Deck waterproofing

One contractor,
both sides of the door.

Most renovators stop at the back door and most landscapers start there. We plan and build on both sides of it.

What a deck builder in East Gwillimbury checks before the first footing

On a septic property the layout starts from where the tank and bed sit, because the Town tells septic owners never to build a deck over the tank. We take levels across the yard, because the fall of the ground sets the deck's height at its far edge and so whether it clears the permit line. On a newer street the grading certificate is part of that visit: in a subdivision the Town has not assumed, it recommends confirming the lot is certified before decks, fences or patios go in. In an environmentally sensitive area the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority may also need to approve the deck, and near a highway corridor the Ministry of Transportation may too, so we check early.

Deck permits in East Gwillimbury

Most of what decides the permit is fixed at the back door. A main floor well above the yard puts a door-height deck 600 mm or more above the ground somewhere, so it is drawn as a permit deck from the start, with the footings and guards that go with it. A walkout or low door often allows a deck below that line, kept uncovered and away from a required exit if you would rather avoid a permit.

Height also moves the price more than size. A deck a step off the lawn needs short posts and maybe no railing; one off a raised main floor needs deeper footings, guards, a longer stair and, past a set height, a permit. After that come the boards, the railing, the slope of the yard and whether the frame can be reused.
